In commemoration of the deportation of the Crimean Tatars in 18-20 May 1944, on 18th of may, we symbolically watered the Crimean linden trees that were planted last year next to the poet Tarass Sevčenko’s monument in Kronvalda park. Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Latvia Dagmāra Beitnere-Le Galla were together with the Ukrainian ambassador to Latvia Oleksandr Mischenko and the Crimean Tatar leader, Refat Chubarov, also participated in a video call from Ukraine and thanked Latvia for maintaining the memorial.

During the event, Deputy Speaker D.Beitnere-Le Galla stressed that Latvians stand by the Tatars and the whole Ukrainian nation. “We have scars that unite us and we stand for their freedom,” she said.

On 9th of May last year, the Parliament adopted a statement on the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the deportations of Crimean Tatars to support for the non-recognition policy of the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russian Federation.
